Project Summary
The client required rapid installation of piled foundations capable of supporting a multi-storey steel frame structure but wanted to save the time and cost of having to install a piling mat and waiting for concrete to cure. Our high-capacity helical screw piles provided the solution; by using a large excavator mounted piling equipment we can excavate to formation and install piles at the same time.
The piles do not require curing time and can be set at the correct design height during installation so the follow on works in the construction sequence can commence earlier – in this case saving over 22 days on the construction programme and 66% embodied carbon compared to concrete piling.

The site contained variable ground including fill, clay and dense sand.

High-torque heads mounted to an excavator installed piles quickly with real-time torque monitoring confirming structural performance.

Connection to Steelwork
Piles were installed down to the correct design level fitted with their structural connection heads ready for incorporation into the reinforced concrete ground floor slab.
