Helical Pile Underpinning After Previous Resin Injection – Worcester Park

We successfully completed a specialist helical pile underpinning installation at a terraced property in Worcester Park, where the foundations had previously been treated using resin injection ground stabilisation.

The property presented two significant challenges.

Firstly, the affected foundation had already undergone resin injection treatment but subsequently required further structural stabilisation.

Secondly, the terraced house had no rear access.

All piling equipment, tools and materials therefore had to be transported through the occupied property to reach the work area.

Underpinning With No Rear Access

Restricted access can significantly limit the foundation repair methods available for terraced properties.

At this Worcester Park property there was no side or rear access suitable for conventional piling machinery.

Our helical piling equipment was sufficiently compact to be carefully transported through the house.

The equipment and materials were moved through the property using appropriate protection and handling procedures, allowing us to reach the foundation without causing damage to the house.

For this project, a helical pile was installed adjacent to the existing foundation and connected to the structure using a specialist underpinning bracket.

The pile provides a direct structural load path from the existing foundation to suitable bearing ground at depth.

In principle:

Existing Foundation → Underpinning Bracket → Helical Pile → Competent Ground

This allows the piled solution to transfer structural loads beyond the shallow ground that had previously received resin treatment.

Underpinning after a Resin Injection

Where further foundation movement is identified following previous resin or geopolymer ground treatment, the cause of movement and condition of the structure should be assessed before determining the appropriate remedial solution. In suitable circumstances, helical pile underpinning can provide an alternative approach by transferring structural loads from the existing foundation to competent ground at depth.

This Worcester Park project demonstrates how helical pile underpinning can potentially provide a practical solution to two problems frequently encountered on residential subsidence claims:

1. Previous foundation treatment
